I ♥ UKG

The evolution of house music in the UK in the mid 1990s led to the term, as previously coined by the Paradise Garage DJs, being applied to a new form of music also known as speed garage. In the late nineties the term UK garage was settled upon by the scene. This style is now frequently combined with other forms of music like hip hop, rap and R&B. It's also influenced by drum and bass, dubstep and grime. In the 90's (in the UK) where jungle was very popular at the time, garage was played in a second room at jungle events. DJs started to speed up garage tracks to make them more suitable for the jungle audience in the UK. The media started to call this tempo-altered type of garage music "speed garage", 4x4 and 2-step's predecessor.

I've always liked garage/2-step during my jungle days, but never really followed it or enjoyed it as I do today. Matt's been playing it a lot, along with UKG's off-shoot, bassline. Just makes me wanna dance all night!

Disneyland Lomo

Below are my new Lomo images from a recent trip to Disneyland with Matt, Steph & Paul. We went on a Sunday and it ended up being crazy busy, although we thought since the economy is fucked maybe less people are going to theme parks. But, with their "What Will You Celebrate" offer goin on, it turns out a lot of people share the same birthday. We had a lot of fun though. I finally went to Blue Bayou restaurant inside Pirates of the Caribbean, which was lovely! We also ran into some dubstep homies, Ryann & Dave. That was cool.
Here's what's not so cool: I was shooting slide film all day, pretty much everything in sight. Then, I forgot to tell the Lab to X-Process my slide film. I ended up spending $15 more a roll and getting not-so-sexy prints of things I would have never shot had I not thought "anything x-pro is rad". Anyways, some came out aight. I've learned my lesson here.

Lumix LX3

I found a new digital camera I wouldn't mind investing a little molah into. It's called the Lumix LX3 and it's made by Panasonic. I've never used this brand before, but I hear it's pretty good. This camera is super tricked out. It shoots 10 megapixel shots and has a 24mm ultra-wide-angle lens (at multiple aspect ratios). It also offers a film mode (to emulate the look of shooting with film) as well as a multiple exposure setting (like Lomo). .. so ill!
My boss got one and shot a pic of us in a meeting at work (really close up) and the second I saw how amazing the wide-angle comes out I was sold. I immediately started to look online for prices and purchase, when I realized it's on back order at all the quality online photography stores, as well as Samys. Boo! As long as its in-stock, shipped and in MY hands by Coachella (April 17th) I'll be a happy nerdy raver.

Here's what it looks like. Small, simple & clean. And will fit in my pocket!

I'm Obsessed!

Anyone that knows me can tell you I've always been the photo journalist of the group, snapping pics pretty much everywhere I go, capturing the moment for not only me - but for my friends & family as well. This has been my nature since I was a kid. Starting with the old school 110 camera of the 80's, to the Polaroid, to the invention of the 35mm camera, all the way to my first (and second, third, fourth, and so on..) digital camera in the early 2000's. Although my memory can be kind of weak, I pretty much have a photo to remind me of all the great moments I've had in life so far. I can't imagine what it would be like to not have those to look back on!

My love for photography has always been there, but I've never really considered going high-end or taking professional classes (besides the high-school elective - which was awesome!) I'm finally starting to consider taking my hobby to the next level. And, I owe it all to the amazing LOMO!!
Ever since I first saw the artistic wonders of an imperfect Lomography photo, I fell in love. It all started with the Holga medium-format in 2007. Once I started shooting with that big hunk I was addicted. Soon after came the Fisheye 2, the Holga 35mm, the Frogeye, the Colorsplash Flash, the LC-A+RL, the LC-A Wide-Angle lens, the LC-A Fisheye lens, the Splitzer, and the Ringflash. I can't stop collecting. I find myself being infatuated on a daily basis by the Lomography store, even my boyfriend laughs when he looks over, and I'm back there again. What's next?, what new promotional offers are they giving?, how many piggy points do I have?, on and on. One day, I shall have them all! Next up, the Lubital 166+
